Production Process
Bierbrand or eau de vie de bière is produced by the distillation of fresh beer with an alcoholic strength of less than 86% vol. so that the distillate has organoleptic characteristics deriving from the beer.
Strength
Bierbrand or eau de vie de bière sold to consumers has a minimum alcoholic strength of 38% vol..
Permitted
- The addition of caramel to adapt the colour and the addition of sugar to ‘round off’ the taste.
- The addition of sugar will be limited to 20g per litre of bierbrand or eau de vie de bière.
Not allowed
The addition of any other alcohol and the use of flavourings.
