Production Process
Raisin spirit / raisin brandy is produced by distilling fermented extracts from dried grapes of the ‘Corinth Black’ or ‘Moscatel of the Alexandria’ varieties. Distillation must take place at less than 94.5% vol. so that the distillate has an aroma and taste from the raw materials.

Strength
Raisin spirit / raisin brandy sold to consumers has a minimum alcoholic strength of 37.5% vol..

Permitted
The addition of caramel to adapt the colour and the addition of sugar to ‘round off’ the taste. (2 years after the new spirits regulation takes effect, i.e. around spring 2021, the addition of sugar will be limited to a maximum of 20g / litre of raisin spirit / raisin brandy.)

Not allowed
The addition of any other alcohol and the use of flavourings.
